Ensemble - Exile - Gilad Atzmon, the Israeli saxophonist now living
in self-imposed exile, has been amazing his listeners with a powerful
personal style that combines great bebop artistry with Middle-Eastern
roots. Atzmon is openly critical of his native government's handling of the Palestinian crisis, however, as much as Atzmon may wear his political protest on his sleeve, the music doesn't rag. Exile tries to remove the unnecessary barriers between Jewish and Arabic cultures and emphasises the similarity between the two peoples. Exile represents a significant milestone in Gilad's musical career and includes a sextet of musicians from Italy, Romania, Britain and Israel and the extraordinary Palestinian singer Reem Kelani. |

| 4-6th December | Accessible Arts Christmas Panto - "Ruff-Doublet and the Queen: An Elizabethan Romp!" -
This year's Accessible Arts Christmas Panto will be set in Tudor times, with all the
usual mixture of bizarre jokes and complete mayhem! Once upon a time, in a Tudor England (almost like the one you've read about in the history books) the Virgin Queen, Elizabeth, has been on the throne for some years, but to be honest, the job's not all it's cracked up to be. Now she's ready for some excitement and adventure. Meanwhile in Spain, King Philip is still keen on a marriage alliance with Elizabeth, but is also becoming annoyed with England's increasing piracy on his ships and territories. One evening, the Queen decides to go for an unofficial Royal walkabout through the streets of London and chances to meet with Sidney Ruff-Doublet, a sailor on shore-leave. The stage is set for a musical tale of mistaken identities, intrigues in the Royal Court, and a very strange sea journey. And all the while, the Armada is getting closer. |

| 29th May - 6th June | Bicentennial Rail Celebrations
2004 - This nine-day festival will celebrate the past, present and future
of rail - the technology that changed the world. 2004 marks the 200th anniversary of the run of the first steam locomotive - Richard Trevithick's 'Pen y Darren engine', as well as the 100th Anniversary of 'City of Truro's 100 mph run. It is also 400 years since the first recorded tramway in Britain. The event aims to be much more than a simple gathering of locomotives. A vibrant, dynamic and unique show, it is planned to include rides (including behind 'City of Truro' and the replica 'Rocket'), demonstrations - including the replica 'Pen - y - Darren' engine, examples of the very latest rail vehicles, access to cabs, a vintage fair, other vintage machinery, theatre, music, film, model engineering and sales of memorabilia in a 'Great Railway Bazaar'. This major event has the backing of the complete railway industry, from Heritage Railways to GNER. Exhibits so far confirmed include the Britain's oldest steamable narrow gauge engine, Britain's last express passenger steam locomotive, and a brand new Pendolino 'tilting train'. This event will take place in York on a specially prepared site adjacent to the award winning National Railway Museum - the world's best rail transport museum, winner of the 'European Museum of the Year' award |
