Christiansted, St. Croix Pink Fancy Hotel, Christiansted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands (US) Pink Fancy Hotel, designated as a National Historic Trust, is a quaint inn located in downtown Christiansted. The Hotel offers history in a tropical setting. The oldest part of the four-building complex is a 1780 Danish townhouse. Years ago the building was a private club for wealthy plantation owners. Fame came when Jane Gottlieb, of Ziegfield Follies fame, opened the club as a hotel in 1948. In the 50's the hotel became a mecca for artists and writers like Noel Coward among others. Duty-free shops and the boardwalk are a pleasant stroll away as are many charming restaurants offering from international to West Indian cuisine. Pink Fancy Hotel is just 8 miles from the airport. St.Croix is the largest island in the US Virgins Islands, total 84 square miles of mostly hilly terrain with pastures and tropical foliage. Christiansted, the one-time Danish West Inies Capial, founded in 1734 is a National Historic Site and charms the visitor with its old-world architecture and reminders of history. |
